“Once you start approaching your body with curiosity rather than with fear, everything shifts.”

About Somatic Therapy
Somatic Therapy is a body-based modality that is specifically designed for the healing and resolution of trauma, unresolved emotions and behavioural or relational patterns — so you can thrive mentally, emotionally, romantically and physically.
Trauma is not what happened to us – it is the residual impact of those events that remain stuck in our body and nervous system.
This leaves us with physical, emotional or mental symptoms such as: anxiety, depression, intimacy issues, physical ailments/tension/pain, stress, overwhelm, ruminating thoughts, sleep issues, out of control emotions, or disconnect from emotions—to name just a few!
To experience deep transformation, resolution and healing, the body must be included in the process.
Somatic Therapy will support you to deeply heal, thrive, gain deep awareness of your body, nervous system and patterns, and regulate your nervous system for deeper states of calm, authenticity, resilience and presence in your life. Yes please!

TESTIMONIALS

“I’ve been working with Georgia for the past 5 months and I couldn’t be more grateful to have found her. She holds such a safe, gentle and warm space that has become a safe haven for me. It can be daunting seeking help, especially in a vulnerable state, but Georgia met me where I was at and didn’t add any extra stressors to my body. She let me know from the beginning we would go at my own pace (no matter how slow ) and we’ve always done exactly that. Her presence, understanding and level of attunement are such gifts, paired with her knowledge of working with trauma within the body and the nervous system. I can’t thank her and little Leo [emotional support dog] enough, for supporting me on this trajectory. I would recommend Georgia to anybody with complete confidence, and even encouragement if you’re needing some support and feel called to a gentle but effective approach.”

“Georgia is truly a beautiful soul. I was encouraged to bring up the issues I wanted to deal with. If I wanted to talk about it, she would listen and validate my feelings (extremely powerful). From there I was encouraged to get curious about how and where this affected my body. There were times I couldn’t identify feelings or affected body parts, however Georgia is very skilled at noticing body language and tell-tale signs. You are fully supported, and encouraged to release that trauma in whatever way feels right. Whether that is crying, yelling, screaming, punching pillows etc. The thing I like about Georgia the most is that she also empowers you to take control of your own healing journey. There’s no gate keeping of strategies. She equips you with methods to continue the practice on your own, in your own space. I can honestly tell you that seeing Georgia was life changing for me.”

Everything You Need to Know
-
Yes, somatic therapy draws on various psychological and somatic theories, integrating insights from neuroscience, trauma research, and body-centred practices. While individual experiences may vary, many clients report significant benefits from this approach.
-
Either option is possible! They’re based in person, in Hamilton Hill (Perth, Western Australia), or via Zoom.
-
It is recommended to have sessions 1-4 weeks apart depending on your preference and how much time, financial investment and energy you can give to your healing.
Like any therapeutic process - you are going to see more results the more consistent and regular you are with your sessions; and the momentum will continue building with each one, to leave you feeling more empowered, resilient, capable and confident within yourself.
-
The number of sessions you would need really depends on your individual needs, goals, your current symptoms (e.g. anxiety, depression, chronic pain, gut issues, relational challenges, etc) and where your body/nervous system is at when we begin sessions.
To use an analogy of going to a gym for personal training: one session would not be enough for your whole physique to change - change takes time - and how long you spend with your PT would depend on your goals and starting point.
Somatic Therapy is designed for deep and permanent transformation so that you get to a point where you don’t need therapy anymore! Some individuals find relief after a few sessions, while others may benefit from a longer-term commitment.
You could start with 4 or 5 sessions and see how your body is responding to the approach, as it can take some time to adjust to a different way of processing and experiencing yourself, especially if you are used to talk-therapy, or are completely new to self-development/healing/embodiment.
In Georgia’s experience, the beginning can feel slow but the therapy deepens and things get resolved faster and faster as the momentum builds and you feel safer and more trusting of your body.
-
The first session is typically like a consultation, with mostly talking (unless you prefer otherwise). You will meet Georgia and discuss some of your history, what’s been going on for you and what you want to get out of therapy.
Georgia will offer suggestions or an approach on how to work towards your goals and where to get started to make sure it feels right for you!Subsequent sessions usually involve 20-30mins talking to uncover belief systems or patterns relevant to the session, and to create a clear intention for your session; followed by around one hour of body-work or body-based exploration (described below).
-
- Resourcing: supporting the nervous system (and body) into a state of safety and deepening a connection to positive sensations and feelings like happiness, ease, safety, peace, empowerment and strength.
- Body awareness: exploring sensation and finding where your body is holding tension, stress, emotion or trauma so that we can work with what is ‘stuck’ in your body. You’ll deepen the connection to your body and be able to decode body-based wisdom/messages.
- Processing: acknowledging and making deeper sense of your experiences; emotional release; ‘completing’ defensive responses (fight, flight, freeze, collapse), which are stuck due to trauma; discharging triggers; resolving unsupportive or dysfunctional patterns; inner child work, parts work; etc. This resolves things at the core for permanent healing and transformation.
- Touch: **only for those who find it supportive and comforting! There is no pressure/obligation to receive touch if you are not comfortable with it. Georgia will discuss this with you.
Georgia brings touch to the parts of the body that hold tension or uncomfortable physical sensation to support the tension to release, organic movement/release to happen and for the body to feel supported.
Touch is powerful because it lets the body know that you are not alone and that someone is there (a lot of trauma is due to feeling alone in a painful or overwhelming experience). It creates a sense of containment, support and protection. It also means that your muscles (which create the tension) do not have to ‘hold on’ because someone else is holding you. The muscles can more deeply let go of tension with this kind of support and containment.- Integration: ensuring this layer of the healing process feels complete before the session ends; debriefing around your experience; setting ‘homework’ for those who want it.
-
Most people end their sessions feeling lighter, relieved, hopeful for the future, seen, validated and freer or more powerful within themselves.
It is also very normal to feel a bit more tired than usual and in need of rest. Some people may feel a little tender after a session, which is also normal.Ideally you would not feel over-activated, drained or in any kind of struggle. If this is the case, we would need to focus on more resourcing and integration (and less processing) until your nervous system feels more regulated and stable to do some of the deeper processing work.
-
It’s completely normal to experience discomfort as you explore challenging emotions or sensations. However, this should be a manageable amount. Georgia will work with you to create a safe environment to explore your inner world at a slow, safe and manageable pace.
If anything feels too much at any point, it is important to take a break, resource and come back to the process when/if you are ready. There is never any pressure to do or feel anything you do not wish to or are not ready for. -
Absolutely! Many clients find that combining somatic therapy with other therapeutic modalities, such as talk therapy, yoga, massage, reiki or mindfulness practices, enhances their healing experience and offers a more comprehensive approach to their well-being.
